That is the quote in this story, said by tired wife of the madness man when in work, run for his high dream to be promoted. The gift is the story about why we should use every minute of our time carefully. Is that what we done now are important? Do we realize it is what we want? Lou is a workaholic man used to put his work as priority instead of his family. He is punctual on time, used to finish his job very efficiently and often does 2 things in a time. He loves to sink in his addicted to work, never give his family a choice, and never realize he is not himself.Until he met Gabriel, a homeless man, he gives him a job, and suddenly his life changes. Gabriel gives him a special gift on Christmas which was TIME, which he actually never had. 

time can't be given. But it can be shared.

The gift makes things right after ages he slaves his time for reaching something never make him satisfied. He savors entire moments, because after this he will not and never be felt it again.

it is time we don't have enough of, it is time that causes the war within our hearts. so use it wisely,,

I used to read almost all books of ahern. Apparently for me this was the best one, after ps I love you exploded. Full of lessons and pull over the heart. 

'no point in working hard, on something if you're not,because at the end of the day, that's what it's all about' Lou father said.

 I used to cry when reading it, especially the moment went Lou with his family. His wife Ruth was very patient to him, look after their children Pud and Lucy while Lou playing with others woman, and still not leaving Lou until he came back to her. I wonder where Gabriel went in the end of the story, and I think he is angel act in this story.
